Top News Porsche Reveals Electric Car Plan

By admin, September 23, 2009

Porsche will have an electric car on sale in five to ten years, according to company boss Michael Macht.

Speaking to German magazine Welt am Sonntag, Macht said that Porsche is working “intensively” on an electrically powered sports car.

However, he added that it would take some time until a marketable model could be introduced “with a reasonable reach, achieving the same handling characteristics of a gasoline engine.”

He added: “I could imagine that we will drive the first vehicles in as soon as five to ten years.”

Macht also predicted that Porsche would near double its annual sales to 150,000 cars a year in the mid to long-term, so long as new models are added to the range.

“If the world economy picks up again, we can well imagine unit sales of 150,000 Porsche cars per year,” said Macht.

“But we won’t achieve this with the four models that are existing today. Otherwise, we would have to significantly increase the number of cars of the current models. And then we would not be exclusive anymore. Therefore we have to think about new vehicles.”

These are believed to be a car based on the VW BlueSport roadster concept, an Audi Q5-based car close to the Roxster concept and a Panamera coupe. Thank: Autocar

2010 Nissan Altima Spy Shots

By admin, September 23, 2009

In the process of recalling 26,398 Nissan Maximas and Altimas, a full picture of the updated 2010 Altima has leaked out along with news that the new model has been recalled before ever leaving the factory.

Last week, Nissan dropped a tightly cropped teaser picture of the 2010 Altima with the promise that more pictures and information would be forthcoming in the near future. In the course of reporting a recall that affects the new Altima, though, a full picture of the car inadvertently leaked out.

2010 Nissan Altima

The leaked photo gives a good look at the updates to the Altima’s bodywork, including a new front fascia, hood, wheels, headlights, tail lights, and sides. Up front, the lower fascia has lost its single large, black intake, which has been replaced by molded body-color pieces with a single horizontal bar across the middle. The fog lights get their own alcoves over in the side ports and are more prominently displayed on the 2009 car

Above, a new grille features a slightly thicker that no longer reaches on to the hood and is broken up by three horizontal slats accented in chrome. The hood itself has lost the twin creases running up the middle in favor of a more subtle bulge. To the sides, the headlights feature cleaner, sharper lenses with the turn signals pushed out to the sides, far less prominent than on the old model.

Around the side, the new Altima appears to get a slightly sharper crease running down its side along the plane of the door handles, which leads to new tail lights. Unfortunately, the front three-quarter view only shows us that the tail lights are larger and more prominent. Other changes to the rear end remain to be seen. The new look is topped off with a set of shiny new split five-spoke wheels that appear to be slightly larger than those found on the 2009 model.

As for the recall itself, the 2009 and 2010 Maximas and Altimas have been recalled because metal upper strut insulators on the cars were not made correctly by the Chinese parts maker Trelleborg Automotive Americas. In extreme conditions, there is a chance the insulator could crack and allow the strut rod to come out of its housing, possibly damaging other suspension elements and leading to an accident. Aston Martin V12 Vantage coming to the U.S

By admin, September 23, 2009

When the Aston Marin V12 Vantage made its debut earlier this year, Aston said that it will produce only 1,000 units of the car during its life span and that it will not offer the car to the North American market. Well, it seems like CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez has changed his mind. Speaking to CARandDRIVER at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Bez said that Aston Martin may build additional units of the V12 Vantage and that it will indeed come

to the United States. Power for the Aston Martin V12 Vantage comes from a 6.0L V12 engine making 510-hp with a peak torque of 420 lb-ft. That allows for a 0 to 62 mph run in just 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph. Aston Martin V12 Vantage : – By: Omar Rana Source: CARandDRIVER

2011 / 2012 BMW M5

Years after F1, the M5 loses its V-10.

When the current M5 and M6 were launched, their V-10 was supposed to evoke the spirit of Formula 1. Remember, years ago BMW had high hopes for its own racing team. Formula 1, of course, has since moved from V-10 to V-8 engines. Now, our sources say, the M5 and M6 follow this switch, even though BMW axed its hugely money-burning F1 efforts a short while ago, with CEO Norbert Reithofer citing environmental concerns as the reason. 2010 BMW 5-series Gran Turismo

By admin, September 23, 2009

Upom reading First Drive Review of 2010 BMW 5-series Gran Turismo im a little skeptical of some of the specifications C/D has provided on this car. I cant imagine this thing weighs 4700lbs, gets 26 mpg with over 300 hp, or takes as long as 6.2 sec to get to 100km/h.

But aside from that, i enjoy this car. Its freakish looks have grown on me, and if it drives as well as any other BMW, it should sell just fine.

The New 2012 Ford C-Max

By admin, September 22, 2009

The world of cars is changing rapidly. With alternative fuels being push around the world, it is just a matter of time before we say goodbye to the gasoline powered internal combustion engine that has served us for well over a century.

But that day is still years, possibly decades away. In the meantime, car manufacturers are continuing to not only further develop and enhance gasoline powered engines, but to reduce their size, increase their output, and put them in increasingly sensible, “right-sized” cars.

Such is the case for the 2012 Ford C-Max, which was recently introduced to the automotive press. Based on the next generation European Ford Focus, (the one that the U.S. will finally get in 2011), the C-Max is the future of the automobile in the United States.

It combines a healthy amount of passenger space and load carrying ability, with a size considerably smaller than the last generation of compact SUV’s, yet gives up little to nothing in the amount it can haul. Style-wise, it has a please, compact, well proportioned shape, that is neither car nor SUV, nor minivan.

And under the hood, we will be treated with Ford’s latest EcoBoost engines. This technology allows for an incredible horsepower output (nearly 100 horses per liter) with very little penalty in gas mileage. The C-Max should be fitted with a 1.6 liter version of this engine.

While this may seem tiny, the motor will be in the vicinity of 160 horsepower (versus the normal 90-100 horsepower you will find in other cheap econoboxes of this size), yet should return gas mileage in the mid to high 30′s.

For years, Ford has kept their beautiful, well designed, highly regarded European models stashed away across the pond. Finally, starting with the Ford Fiesta in 2010, the U.S. customer will finally be able to get a taste of the very best Ford has to offer.

With the Focus and the C-Max as follow ups, Ford’s future looks bright indeed.

2009 Honda Fit Review

By admin, September 22, 2009

The Honda Fit took the market by storm in 2001. It is referred to as the Honda Jazz in Europe and parts of Asia, the Middle East and select other parts of the world. The name Honda Fit is primarily used in China, Japan and the United States. The 2009 Honda Fit uses Global Small Car Platform and is considered a subcompact vehicle.

2009 Honda Fit
2009 Honda Fit

Listed as an entry level model, the Honda Fit is getting rave reviews for its excellent fuel economy. Now in it’s second generation, Honda has given one of their most popular models a face lift so it seems.

Search engine hits for the 2009 Honda fit were through the roof in 2008 as car enthusiasts were excited to see what the new model would offer. Those who patiently waited have not been disappointed either.

Expanded interior room, powerful handling and an even more powerful engine then ever before are just a few of the new features that can be found. This in return increased the Honda Fit’s length and width as compared to the previous years model.

2009 Honda Fit
2009 Honda Fit

Mixed emotions about restricted movements in the back seat were put to rest this year as well when extended leg room was added. Rear seating is still offering all its old tricks though, like raising the seat to form a cargo space.

Under that tiny hood you will find 1. 5 liter engine. The previous model also came standard with this same engine size, but 2009 saw a few changes. Among the most noticeable are the improvements to the iVTEC valve timing and the small increase in fuel efficiency. It is listed with an estimated 27 MPG fuel rating.

2009 Honda Fit
2009 Honda Fit

You every day run of the mill safety features were not left out, included are anti lock brakes, front and side curtain airbags and head restraints. New this year is the stability control system that can be added to the Fit Sport Model. The downfall to this was that it only comes packaged with the optional navigation system, one of the only complaints this car has seen in review.

Overall, this new model Honda Fit has rated very well. Evaluations and test drives of the vehicle have been extremely positive with very little disappointment. Some are looking for increased horsepower in up coming models but seem to be content with what Honda is offering at the moment. If your in the market for a fuel efficient small car then the Honda Fit is worth some looking in to.
